Port Canaveral is celebrating a notable feat. December 2022 marks its record best cruise month!
Located 45 miles east of Orlando, Port Canaveral is a popular cruise port, and one of the fastest-growing in the U.S. Over the past year, its seen an increase in its number of ships and sizes.
Included is the largest cruise ship in the world, Royal Caribbean’s new Wonder of the Seas. The Orlando Sentinel reports that other newer and larger ships include Carnival’s Mardi Gras, Norwegian Prima, MSC Meraviglia, and the Disney Wish.
Disney Wish is Disney Cruise Line’s newest cruise ship. Fifth in the fleet, it’s the largest vessel, making its maiden voyage in the summer of 2022.
Record Best Cruise Month
In December, cruise revenue reached $19.3 million, including parking. $8.7 million over budget, it skyrocketed Port Canaveral’s income to almost $50 million in the fiscal year’s first three months.
Driving those funds were 95 ship calls including 700,000 guests. Over the holidays, two weekends brought in over $100,000.
In December of 2021, Port Canaveral’s numbers were at 300,000 passengers post-pandemic. December 2022 did include an extra weekend, contributing to the additional revenue.
243 ship calls containing over 1.7 million guests have come through Port Canaveral since October. Cruise revenue exceeds $7.6 million over the proposed budget in a period of three months.
Operating expenses have decreased by $1.1 million to $27.1 million. Service contracts, salaries, engineering, and other elements contributed to the savings.
Due to an increase in the volume of people, Port Canaveral is considering payment upon entry rather than pay-at-the-gate parking for Cruise Terminal 10. This will ensure people won’t get stuck in the garage.
