President Biden has announced that both the nation’s COVID National Emergency and Public Health Emergency will be ending as of May 11, 2023. Both Emergencies were announced by the Trump Administration back in March 2020 as the COVID pandemic spread across the globe and eventually the United States.
Since the COVID National Emergency and Public Health Emergency were declared in 2020, they have been renewed every 90 days.

The main driving force behind ending COVID emergencies in May? The White House states vaccines along with most Americans have already returned to their “normal lives.”
While Biden has announced the end day for both of these national emergencies, many in Congress wanted them to end right away. Biden and his administration pushed back on this siting the “chaos” it would cause.
Per the White House, “An abrupt end to the emergency declarations would create wide-ranging chaos and uncertainty throughout the health care system – for states, for hospitals and doctors’ offices, and, most importantly, for tens of millions of Americans. Due to this uncertainty, tens of millions of Americans could be at risk of abruptly losing their health insurance, and states could be at risk of losing billions of dollars in funding.”
While May 11 will make the official end to the COVID-era policies and national emergencies for the United States, Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and Disney Cruise Line have already returned to a sense of “normalcy.”
The mask mandate at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland ended over a year ago. In addition, Disney Cruise Line has ended their mask mandate along with vaccine protocols. Traditional meet and greets have also returned to Disney’s domestic parks and Disney Cruise Line.
